Microsoft Contributes Code to the Linux Kernel!

When I first read about this on twitter I was shocked. Microsoft has submitted 20,00 lines of device driver code to the Linux Community! Reportedly, the code consists of four drivers that are part of a technology called Linux Device Driver for Virtualization. The drivers contain hooks which will allow Linux distributions to run better on Windows Server 2008 and its Hyper-V hypervisor technology.

The response from Jim Zemlin, executive director of the Linux foundation was "Hell has frozen over, the seas have parted". In any case Microsoft's code will become a part of the 2.6.30.1 stable kernel release. Watch the video from Channel 9 for further information:Microsoft Contributes Code to the Linux Kernel
